This is a solar based water purification and purification unit. The project leverages on Solar energy, ultrafiltration and Ultra-Violet Purification to provide clean drinking water. This is our final year project submission.

For proof of concept we designed the first prototype which was our version1. On further considerations there was need to scale up the prototype to purify more water.

PCB Design


Using KiCAD we designed the PCB and fabricated it. The unit is controlled by Lilygo TCall module that controls the operations enabling remote control using GSM.

Technologies

The project intergrates the following technologies to purify the water.

  • Solar

    Solar to power
    the filtration unit

  • Filtration

    Use of both sediment filters
    and ultrafiltration.

  • UV Purification

    UV LEDs of wavelength
    265nm to kill harmful microorganisms in water.

Additional features

  1. Reminder to change and replace the filters through SMS integration
  2. Visualize flow statistics and volumes through Thingspeak API dashboard
  3. Cellular connection and thus WiFi is not needed as data can be send to cloud via GPRS
